Sponsorship of Mercia FM Local Guide
BID Leamington Ltd announced a 10 month sponsorship deal with Mercia FM to generate a greater awareness and to increase footfall for Leamington Spa town centre.
Over the period Leamington town centre received in excess of 1000 on air credits.
Royal Leamington Spa Food and Drink Festival 2008
The Food and Drink festival in 2008 saw the town alive with thousands of new visitors enjoying the sunshine, and all Leamington has to offer. With press coverage that spread as far as Birmingham, Leicester and Oxford the event had something for everybody with live music, cookery demonstrations, and a huge range and variety of stalls.
All BID Leamington levy payers who took part reported fantastic sales and said the event was a great opportunity to meet new customers while promoting their products to a wider audience.
Taste Trail 2008
Thirteen Leamington restaurants took part in last year's Leamington Taste Trail, which was designed to encourage visitors to the Food and Drink Festival into the town centre, whilst promoting each restaurant to potential new customers.
Feedback was good from the customers who took part, with many of them saying that they went in to restaurants which they hadn't previously visited. The majority of restaurants that participated were pleased with the response, and have already expressed an interest in participating in 2009.
Baby of the Year Competition
This is an annual event organised by the town centre management, and the Courier Newspaper. With the involvement of the BID, we ensured that a Leamington photographer was used, and the first 300 entrants received a sponsored goody bag with offers and incentives from levy paying businesses.
New Brand for Royal Leamington Spa
As BID Leamington Ltd is tasked with promoting and marketing Royal Leamington Spa as a retail and leisure destination, it is imperative that we have a new brand.
The logo is a visual representation of all that the town is about, and includes references to the towns history.
Originally designed in Royal blue, the logo can be adapted to a variety of different colours, and can be tailored for calendar dates and special events.
New Christmas Lights
Christmas 2008 saw Leamington Town Centre sparkle with brand new Christmas lights. In previous years the lights have been provided by Warwick District Council, in partnership with voluntary contributions from the Chamber of Trade, Sketts and others. This year with funding from the BID, we have been able to buy completely new lights.
It is planned that we will add to the scheme over the lifetime of the BID, to ensure that Leamington looks fabulous throughout the festive season.
Christmas Sparkle 2008
Starting on the 20th November 2008 and operating on five late night Thursdays up until Christmas, the Sparkle event aimed to encourage shoppers into the town, with an enhanced shopping experience.
Thursday nights saw the town sparkle with moving lights and animations on the buildings with street entertainers, music and choirs serenading visitors as they shopped. Leamington also saw its first visit from an inflatable toboggan run, which proved a great success.
Brand Advertising
Using the new brand of Royal Leamington Spa, adverts promoting Christmas and the January Sales were placed in key publications including Warwickshire Life, Warwickshire Living, Cotswold Style and the Leamington Courier. We also managed to secure a free half page of editorial in the Leamington Courier most weeks on the run up to Christmas, and adverts were also placed on bus panels for maximum exposure.
3D Map
BID Leamington Ltd commissioned a new 3D map of the town centre. With nearly every piece of print media we produce needing a map, we felt that this format not only looks fantastic, but can also be used in a number of ways. eg, window vinyls, interactive web applications, etc.
Pamper Promotion
The Pamper Promotion leaflet was distributed to 70,000 homes in the area to promote Leamington as the destination for hair and beauty.
All levy paying salons were featured, and the 17 who provided an offer had a positive response, with some salons attracting over 60 new clients.
Parade Magazine
120,000 copies of the Parade Magazine were delivered to households in Leamington, Warwick, Kenliworth, Stratford, Coventry, and Solihull on the Thursday before Easter weekend.
Focusing on the national retailers within the town and featuring the season's hottest trends for men, women and children, top beauty buys, the latest entertainment technology, home accessories and outdoor products with individual items featured which were easily identified by the store from which it could be purchased and its location.
Window Vinyls
BID Leamington Ltd is giving a number of empty retail premises a new lease of life. The 3D Map of the town, together with a complete listing of all levy paying businesses will be temporarily positioned on the windows of some empty shops at key entry points into the town.
The maps will not only help visitors navigate the town centre, but will also cover up the windows of empty premises, making the streets look more attractive, encouraging greater footfall.

Refresh of www.bidleamington.com
www.bidleamington.com is specifically aimed at levy paying businesses within the town. Its main purpose is to keep the levy payers updated and informed on all the projects and services being delivered by BID Leamington Ltd.
Plans are underway to introduce a members page, where levy payers will be able to login and receive special offers and discounts.
It is hoped that in time, we will also be able to use this median, to communicate with levy payers to reduce print costs.
Guide To Royal Leamington Spa
This free publication will be the most comprehensive guide to shopping, eating and drinking in Leamington. 100 pages are packed with beautiful photographs, and information on the shops, bars and restaurants which make our town unique.
Distribution will be through your shop, local tourist information centres, hotels, train stations etc. If well received it is hoped that this guide will become an annual publication.
New website for Royal Leamington Spa
www.royal-leamington-spa.co.uk
This month will see the launch of the brand new website for Royal Leamington Spa. Building on our current brand and promoting Leamington primarily as a shopping and leisure destination, each levy paying business will have their own page on the site.
Late Night Leamington
This promotion focuses on the licensees of Leamington, and promotes the fantastic range of bars, pubs and clubs within the town. A pocket sized pull out Z-card map will be distributed in and around the town, and in areas with high levels of our target audience.
The map will be a visual guide of where each establishment can be found, together with a rich visual montage of the fantastic interiors the bars and clubs provide.
Hanging Baskets
Royal Leamington Spa is renowned for it's fabulous floral displays. In previous years businesses have been able to buy the baskets from Warwick District Council. For the period of the BID, all baskets will be supplied, installed and maintained by BID Leamington Ltd.
Last year, there were approximately 70 baskets in the BID area. This year, there will be in excess of 240.
Independents' Magazine
July saw the publication and distribution of 150,000 magazines promoting Leamington as the home of the independent retailer. With features on Park Street, Warwick Street, Regent Street and other areas within the town, the publication featured a more editorial style of copy.
The magazine contained the map, identified where the independent retailers can be found, together with an offers page and promotion of the 4th of July 'Independents' Day' event.
For the first time we increased our area of distribution to include Banbury and Rugby.
Independents Day Event
The 4th of July (American Independence Day) fell on a Saturday of this year. Using a play on words, this was an ideal opportunity to promote Leamington as the home of the independent retailer.
The event was focussed on Regent Street and a fun family atmosphere ensued, which enhanced the shopping experience and drew people into the town. The ride-out by the local Harley Davidson bikers proved extremely popular as the closure of Regent Street allowed the riders to park up and chat to visitors.
The main highlights included

Footfall Counters
This summer saw the installation of four footfall cameras throughout the BID area. With 2 on the Parade (M & S and entrance to Royal Priors), one on Regent Street (Superdry)and the remaining camera positioned on Warwick Street (Country Bumpkins) the data collected from these sites will not only provide valuable data on footfall within the town, but will also allow us to measure how the town is performing nationally.
This data will eventually form part of a Leamington report which will be circulated to all levy payers but in the meantime please contact the BID office for specific information.
Royal Leamington Spa Food and Drink Festival 2009
This summer sees the return of the Royal Leamington Spa Food & Drink Festival. Taking place on 29th & 30th August 2009, the festival is set to be an even bigger success than last year's which saw around 10,000 people visit the two day event.
Planning is well underway for this year and restaurants and retailers wishing to be involved are urged to act now to avoid disappointment later. As with last year, the 2009 Festival will see the streets of Royal Leamington Spa come alive with food lovers.
Taste Trail 2009
As part of the Food and Drink Festival, a 'Taste Trail' was designed to encourage people from the festival into the town and visit restaurants that they might not have been to before.
Last year, thousands of people visited up to 13 BID restaurants to sample their food - this year we have surpassed that number with 14 restaurants participating.
Bus Advertising
To continue promoting Royal Leamington Spa as the shopping and leisure destination we organised the branding of the back of 3 buses from the Coventry fleet.
The buses are in continuous operation throughout the entire area and as well as being extremely visible can be used to promote specific events in Leamington Spa - the first of which is the Food and Drink Festival.
We also have 50 poster sites within the buses which are promoting the web site and inviting customers to log on to see what is on offer in Royal Leamington Spa.
dine - National Dining Week
12th - 18th October 2009 - dine swept across local town and city centre's throughout the UK and Ireland.
As part of the BIDS ongoing programme of marketing and events, designed to increase footfall and promote the town, dine was supported and funded by the BID company.
Late Night Leamington
This month saw the launch of a new initiative to promote late night venues within the town. A free, pocket sized guide was produced which showcased the broad range of late night venues on offer. Although the guide was aimed at targeting residents and visitors, particularly the student market, to experience Leamington's nightlife including pubs, bars and nightclubs, it was also well received by those wanting a handy map of the town.
20,000 copies of the guide were printed and were available from the venues listed in the guide and from the Leamington Tourist Information Centre. The guide was distributed during Fresher Week at Warwick University and received very positively by students. 1,300 copies were mailed out to student accommodation in Leamington, Warwick and Kenilworth plus distribution to major colleges and universities in the area. Copies were also being handed out on Friday and Saturday nights to the target market around town.
The guide can also be requested online at
Refresh of www.royal-leamington-spa.co.uk
This month saw the refresh of the official web site for Royal Leamington Spa. The site features a new home page, an interactive map of the town, an online readable version of the Shopping guide, together with a page for each retailer in the Town.
With full content management, each retailer can update their page with new images, description and any offers or promotions.
Visitors to the site can login and next year we will actively start a program of e flyers promoting the town and what is on offer.
Christmas Lights
Once again the fantastic new lights bought by BID Leamington illuminated the town. Two new crossings were added in Regent Street and Warwick Street and the crossings in Park Street were updated with Mistletoe light clusters and the same clusters were used to decorate tress at the bottom of Regent Grove and in Euston Place.
Renovation of existing lights in some of the trees around the area was also comissioned.
Once again we have enhanced the scheme with additional projections and installations onto some of the buildings to coincide with late night shopping and the weekends.
Christmas Parade Magazine
As well as our local customers, we believe that we should be targeting specific shoppers who live within an hour's drive of the town. To that end we produced a specific Christmas Parade Magazine which was distributed to 169,000 homes in the Central region via The Mail on Sunday 'You' magazine on 22nd November 2009.
The format of the Parade magazine has been well received by both levy payers and customers alike and is an excellent mechanism to showcase the unique retail offering that is Leamington.
The magazine has also been made available to retailers to give to their customers.
Christmas Radio Advertising
On 23rd November for a five week period Royal Leamington Spa was advertised on Heart FM
Radio Advertising
This month saw the start of an 8 month radio campaign with Mercia FM to promote Royal Leamington Spa as a great destination.
The advert changed throughout the campaign to promote the Leamington Live event and seasonal changes.

The second edition of the Royal Leamington Spa shopping guide was published in March this year.
Listing all businesses within the BID area, it is the definitive guide to all that is on offer within the town.

The magazine was distributed locally (Leamington, Kenilworth, Warwick, South Coventry, Solihull, Stratford, Banbury and Rugby) and also regionally via the Mail on Sunday 'You' magazine.

Hanging Baskets
Once again BID Leamington Ltd was responsible for the hanging baskets within the BID area. The baskets are an important part of the look and feel of the town centre during the Summer months and are always met with a positve response from both shoppers and retailers.
Prior to the BID businesses were responsible for buying their own baskets which were supplied by Warwick District Council. The cost of each basket was approx. £80 and just over 100 were purchased. We now have over 230 baskets displayed within the BID area and any levy paying retailer who would like a basket supplied by the BID should contact the BID office on 01926 470634.
